JO ANN KAMINSKY

Jo Ann Kaminsky is an Arkansas native who is a practicing counselor, art therapist, play therapist, artist and puppeteer living in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She feels that she has always been an artist but has made her living as waitress, caseworker with DHS, zookeeper, potter, Artist-in-Education before becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor in 1991. In 1993, along with her husband, sculptor Hank Kaminsky, she founded the Art Experience, which functioned as a small community art school. Jo Ann developed her private practice as a therapist in the same building at 641 W Martin Luther King. That building has been razed to make room for the new School of Art of the University of Arkansas.
Since then, Jo Ann has continued her private practice, becoming a Board-Certified, Registered Art Therapist in 2005 as well as a Registered Play Therapist. She has worked with local hospitals, shelters, schools, hospices, and art centers and festivals in the area and in Bolivia on three occasions. She worked there in prisons and schools, colleges and art centers. She has presented at many local, state and national conferences, including the American Art Therapy Association.
In 2010 the Art Experience was transformed into a center for healing and growth through the expressive arts and play and achieved its non-profit status so that it would serve the underserved. www.theartexp.org for more information about the Art Experience, inc.
Jo Ann has maintained her art studio working in many media, currently developing her skills in woodcarving for puppets. She is a member of Fenix and is currently the Program Director and Clinical Supervisor at The Art Experience, Inc. She maintains her private practice serving teenagers and adults. Although Jo Ann is a painter and potter she is more known and her work is most visible in local parades and festivals with giant puppets and smaller ones. Annual she produces Puppets in the Park, a free community festival and leads community art making and play activities at her studio and in the community
